Reflection: What I Learned About Online Inclusion
This week helped me see how inclusion affects online learning. In the Week 3 instructor video, Dr. Irvine explained how students start with different levels of access, and that point stayed with me. Some have strong internet, quiet spaces, or good devices. Others do not. This changes how they learn and how much they can join in.
The video also showed how design choices matter. Simple pages, clear text, and captions can support many students at once. After hearing this, I started noticing how these small choices make a course feel more welcoming.
I also learned that giving students more than one way to learn helps with inclusion. Dr. Irvine talked about offering choices in how students read, watch, or respond, which gives each person a chance to use their strengths. This made me see how flexible design supports real needs.
The instructor also reminded us that inclusion is not only about tools. It is about care. A kind message or a clear guide can help a student feel safe enough to join in. This shaped how I think about online spaces.
Online learning works better when we remove barriers and help everyone feel welcome.
